I found some lovely 100% sweaters at Goodwill which will be machine-felted (washed in hot water; dried on hot) to shrink them up. They'll be cut up for an art doll's body down the road. The sweaters were fascinating...from Australia (a Sarah Ferguson), Thailand, Scotland, Austria and Hong Kong.
After the washing/drying..it was almost comical how some of them shrank.
Two of them had really nice buttons so I removed them. The one from Austria had heavy buttons, most likely pewter.
Then this happy little guy cost me $1.00 and guess what he's made from...
a pot lid! Who would have thought it could be made into something so cute. So, when you are yard saling this summer, "rescue" a few unloved pots for their lids for Halloween art and turn the bottom parts into, well, whatever.
Then at a moving sale (to Texas), I found a cast iron table and...
a tile-and-iron coffee table which will be used in our new room. It suits the colors well and won't have to be babied like wood would be (you can set a drink down on it and not worry).
All in all it was a successful few hours "hunt."
