I was visiting dear Maija's blog today and she had this link Whales. If you've ever seen one of these magnificent creatures in real life whether on a watching cruise or aquarium, I daresay you were not the same afterwards. You look into the eyes of one and see the intelligence there. They care for their babies, they support one another when sick, it's a family, a community. They communicate. Just because we don't understand what they're saying doesn't mean it has no value. This takes you to a place to sign a petition to stop whaling. This is something I feel VERY strongly about and have for years. I did a speech for my public speaking class about this which earned me an A.
There is no real need to hunt whales any more. We have other products and food sources that can replace anything they provide. Now I'm not talking about native peoples such as eskimos that do need it to survive and the few they take are used with respect and no waste. It's other countries that don't seem to be able to give up an antiquated industry. Please, please take a moment to check it out and sign the petition on the right side. It won't cost you anything but a few minutes of your time. Thanks.
There are other groups out there such as the Hunger Site (hungersite.com) which all it takes is a click daily or as you have time to make a difference. Even making yourself known with your elected officials is easier than ever by email.
That's my challenge to you and me...make more of a difference in 2008. :)
Very good links and an excellent resolution. I'm still deciding on my resolutions.
